It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martha "Marty" Jane Weaver, a beloved, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away on April 30, 2023, at the age of 88. She had suffered with dementia for many years in the latter part of her life. Marty was born on September 26, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Marcelinous and Margaret (Wayman) Miller. Her mother passed away when she was only 11 years old, and she spent much of her childhood with her grandparents in Missouri.
Marty graduated from North High School and was an active member of the school community. She participated in synchronized swimming and worked for the high school paper. After graduating, she became the first female gas station attendant, working for Jack Anderson off Army Post Road. She later took a job as a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, where she worked until her retirement.
On August 22, 1953, Marty married John "Phil" Weaver. They loved to go camping and horseback riding across the United States, and they shared many happy memories together. Marty had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed crafts, dancing, swimming, mowing, reading, and putting together puzzles. She particularly loved camping and attending the Iowa State Fair every year. Marty was a long time member of the Norwalk Christian Church.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) Weaver, Keith (Linda) Weaver, Laura (Pat) Flinn, and David Weaver; grandchildren, Shawnda, Christy, Mellissa, Lance, Philip, Crystal, Elinda, Jennifer, Gina, Allison, Amber, Brittany, and Eliza; 28 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Marty was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Alma, Mary, John, and Elizabeth “Bissy”.
Memorial service for Marty will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Norwalk Christian Church with visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
