Marvin Eugene Pommer passed away at home surrounded by his family September 20, 2021. Marv was born 11/2/37 in Berkley, Iowa to Malvin and Mercedes Pommer. He graduated Dana High school in 1957. Following graduation, he worked at many factory jobs at John Deere Des Moines works where he retired in 1994 after 35 years. In September if 1962 he married Margaret Marnin of Fontanelle, Iowa. The couple lived in Des Moines their entire life. At the young age of 16, Marv had health problems which eventually resulted in him having liver transplant in 1995. He was forever grateful to the family whose loved one gave him many healthy years during which he saw both his daughters marry which gave him three grandchildren to love and hold. Marv was a kind man with a sense of humor who never met a stranger and had a friendly word for everyone he met. He also enjoyed many things like Celtic music, traveling, hunting, and above all a great conversation over a meal out. Marv was never happier than when he had his boat full of his fishing friends and headed to his favorite fishing hole. He was always there to lend a hand with whatever anyone needed most recently working with the Des Moines Area Religious Council to help haul food every Monday He is survived by his daughter Terri Paulus (Mike) of Omaha NE and three grandchildren Ashley Bontrager, Samuel Paulus, and Anna Paulus as well as a many other family members and a multitude of longtime friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret Pommer; daughter Tracy Fraser; and his brother Ken Pommer. A visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines, IA on Sunday, September 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 27, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will take place in the Glendale Cemetery. Memorial may be made to the St Joseph’s Homeless Shelter or The Des Moines Area Religious Council.
