Memorial Visitation Service for Marvin Elden Shriver "Red" was held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Interment took place at the Jefferson Cemetery. Marvin Elden Shriver "Red", son of Ora and Zelma Shriver, was born October 23, 1921 in Jefferson, Iowa and died December 1, 2016 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson at the age of 95. Red grew up in his house his grandfather Michael built and lived there his whole life. He enlisted in the United States Army on June 4, 1942 in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and was injured during service. He was honorably discharged on November 10, 1945. On February 25, 1946 he was united in marriage to Iva. They had four children together: Donna, Deannda, Dale and Dan. Red worked for the City of Jefferson at The Gardens, then for the D.O.T doing road maintenance for over 30 years. After his retirement in November 1983 he collected and restored antiques and worked for John Hamilton. Red was a member of the American Legion and Farm Bureau DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents; David Shriver (1998); grandson John Shriver; brothers Ira Shriver, Doug Shriver and Jesse Healey. He is survived by his children Donna Shriver of Gowrie, DeAnnda Silbaugh (Ron) of Marshalltown, Dale Shriver (Michelle) of Ankeny and Dan Shriver of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Cindy Kelly, Sara Tempel (Mike), Ginger Wood, Eric Silbaugh (Sherie), Elizabeth Miller (Broderick), Marissa Shriver (fianc Jake), Deana Shriver and Joe Shriver; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Alice Shriver; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Memorials may be sent to St. Croix in Panora.
