Mary Ann Underwood, 84, of Adel passed away July 1, 2018 at West Bridge Care Center in Winterset. Funeral services will be Monday July 9, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel with burial at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. Visitation will be Sunday July 8 at 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home – McCalley Chapel in Adel with prayer service at 5:00 P.M. Mary Underwood was born December 18, 1933 in Green County IA to Thomas and Evelyn (Kelly) Finn. Mary graduated in 1951 from West High School in Rockford, IL. She then attended a business college. Mary was united in marriage to Stanley Underwood at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, IA in 1967. Mary was a homemaker after being an executive secretary at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids before marriage. Her hobbies included pottery, needlepoint, painting, and baking. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader. She loved to sing the Ave Maria. She enjoyed her orange soda, going to church, out to eat, watching EWTN, getting manicures, and shopping. She loved to travel. She was afflicted with a chronic illness for decades that she endured as best she could and her faith carried her through the tumultuous times. She truly loved her family. She will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by her husband, her children Stan Underwood, Jr., Joe Underwood, and Mary Beth Underwood; grandson Daniel Underwood; sister Fran Hazlett; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Bob and sister Patricia along with her parents and nephew David Hazlett. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family in Mary’s memory.
