Mary Anne Porter

Mary Anne Porter was born November 9, 1920 in Potwin, Kansas; the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Fulton) Long. She graduated from Elk Point, South Dakota High School and later from Tri-State College of Commerce in Sioux City, Iowa. Her marriage to James Martin Porter took place on September 17, 1941 in Grant City, Missouri. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Dillinger and husband Larry of Bella Vista, AR; her son, David Porter and wife Martha of State Center; a daughter-in-law, Victoria Porter of Des Moines; nine grandchildren (Jeffrey, Ramona, Eric, Karri, Gregory, Kristine, Rodney, Lori and LeAnna); 21 great grandchildren (Jeramy, Julie, Ethan, Evan, Branten, Owen, Courtney, Kenadey, Grace, Jackson, Ross, Rachel, Riley, Georgia, Jalen, Tia, Anthony, Andrew, Brock, Salena and Vincent); and many nieces and nephews. Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Joel Wennblom; her husband of 65 years, James Martin Porter; a son, Larry Porter; and siblings, Edna, Ruth, and Paul Long. Mary Anne worked for Northwestern Bell for 28 ½ years as an operator in Winterset and then in finance in Des Moines. She was also a member of the Communications Workers of America Local 7102 and the Pioneers Club. Mary Anne and James enjoyed camping and fishing in Minnesota and Iowa and wintering in Arizona and Texas. She liked to crochet, loved animals and made great homemade noodles her family enjoyed. Mary Anne died Monday, January 7, 2008 at Winterset Care Center North, Winterset. She was 87. Visitation: 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, prior to services, January 10, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa. Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa. Memorial: Memorials may be directed to the Middle River Hospice, Winterset.
