Mary Maxine Boyd, daughter of Arthur DeSart and Minnie Schmidt DeSart, was born December 16, 1921 in Lake City, Iowa and died January 9, 2005 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 83 years and 23 days. Maxine was raised in Lake City along with three sisters and one brother. She attended school in Lake City and graduated with the class of 1939. After high school graduation, she received her teaching certificate from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Maxine taught for three years in a one room schoolhouse outside of Yetter. Maxine was united in marriage to Jay Martin Boyd on February 9, 1947 at Lake City. They were the parents of three daughters, Barb, Kris and Paula. The family made their home in Churdan. Maxine worked for the Maid Rite in Jefferson for many years as well as American Athletic for 20 years. She was a member of the UAW Local 1540 and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Churdan, Iowa In her spare time, Maxine was especially fond of quilting, sewing, crocheting and participated with the Ladies Auxiliary projects. She was an avid reader and also attended many adult activity events. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jay in 1988, sisters Ruth White and Mable Lile, and brother Merle DeSart. She is survived by her daughters: Barb Cairns and her husband Clair of Jefferson, Iowa, Kris Konradi and her husband Jim of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Paula Haney and James Brown of Roebuck, South Carolina; 7 grandchildren: Shelly Fairbairn and her husband Scott of Bondurant, Robin Gunn and her husband Charles Jr. of Grand Junction, Chad Mobley and Linda Jewel of Albert City, Salenna Duffle and her husband Jim of Churdan, Julie Bucci and her husband Dan of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Amanda and Ryan Haney of Roebuck, South Carolina; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Florence Cooley of Escalon, California; special friends Rhetta and Keith Wright of Churdan; other relatives and a host of friends.
