Mary Louise Lindeman, 76, passed away April 20, 2016 at home. A graveside memorial service will be held in Aplington, Iowa at the Pleasant View Cemetery on Friday, May 27th at 6:00 p.m. Mary was born December 23, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from the University of Iowa and went on to receive a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She worked as a social worker in Sioux City and Minneapolis before moving to Adelaide, Australia. Mary was Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at both the South Australian Institute of Technology and then the University of South Australia. She taught group work and social work practice topics. It was she who first appreciated the importance of computers in the future of education and was instrumental in having them introduced into the school. After 40 years in Australia, she moved back to Des Moines in July of 2015 to be close to family. Mary enjoyed time with her beloved friends in Australia especially the times on their houseboat. She loved her pets, puzzles, lively discussions on world affairs and a glass of Lindeman red wine! Mary is survived by her niece, Nancy (Bill) West; nephews Scott Burns and Terry Burns, great nieces, Heather (Derrick) Walton, Angelia (Jim) Shindelar; great nephew, Blair (Becca) West; great-great nephew, Brady Walton; great-great niece, Sophia and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Grace Lindeman and sister, Myrna Lindeman.
