Mary Louise Weuve of Des Moines, Iowa died on April 23, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Mary Lou was born on December 17, 1941 to Leo and Matilda Stangl. After growing up and graduating from high school in Auburn, IA, Mary Lou continued her education in Omaha, NE before eventually moving to Des Moines, IA. It was in Des Moines where she met and eventually married Dwayne Weuve. Together, on an acreage on the outskirts of West Des Moines, they built a life and raised four children. In 1994, they moved to Windsor Heights. Professionally, Mary Lou spent her life helping others on the phone line for the Social Security Administration until her retirement in 2008. After retiring, Mary Lou spent the next years of her life doing the crossword puzzles she loved and sewing for friends and family. In 2020, Dwayne and Mary Lou celebrated 56 years of marriage. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her father, Leo Stangl; mother, Matilda (Mattes) Stangl; and her brother, Earl Stangl. She is survived by her loving husband and caretaker through her Alzheimer’s, Dwayne; children, Christopher, Delon (Shirley), Shawn, and Celest (Amy); and four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Weuve, Campbell, and Kade Spurlock. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 1230 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines, IA. The funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Burial at Glendale Cemetery will be held immediately following the funeral. Due to Covid-19 concerns, mourners are encouraged to pay their respects in the manner that they are most comfortable. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://act.alz.org/donate .
