Mary Lou Lynch, 86, passed away peacefully on Dec. 12, 2024, at Edencrest Legacy in Norwalk. 

Mary Lou was born in St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement, Cumming, Iowa, to Maurice and Alice Lynch. She was the eldest of six siblings. She moved to Omaha in 1963 and worked with an architectural firm. She joined Nebraska Medical Center, which gave her a scholarship toward her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work. She then became a social worker helping transplant and terminally ill patients. 

She was heavily involved in her community, volunteering with Head Start and her church, Holy Family. She was part of the Civil Rights movement in Omaha and met Martin Luther King, Jr. 

She is survived by brother Tom Lynch, sister Helen Lynch, eight nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are brothers Maurice (Bud) F. Lynch and Robert (Bob) Lynch and sister Janet Schissel. A graveside service will be conducted at St Patrick’s Church in Cumming in the spring.
