Mary Patricia Maloney, age 65, passed away on Friday, January 29th in her home. She was born on June 9, 1955 in Minnesota to Donald “Pat” and Collette Maloney. She is survived by her husband, Peter Tarpey, and their two children, Megan and Michael. She is also survived by her three sisters - Barbara Graham, Kathy Dean, and Peggy Klein, and her brother Jim Maloney; her stepmother Nancy Maloney; her husband’s children Jennifer Kaufmann and Paul Tarpey; and her two grandchildren, Max and Nick. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael. She was a longtime resident of central Iowa, having graduated from Iowa State University in 1977 with a degree in economics, finance, and political science. In 1989 she became the Polk County Treasurer and dutifully served in that capacity until her death. She was a dedicated member of the Iowa Democratic Party, assisting on several campaigns ranging from the local to national level, most recently supporting the run of longtime friend, President Joe Biden. She will be remembered for her steadfast commitment to public service, believing that it was her highest duty and calling to serve her fellow Iowans. Private services will be held for family only on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
