Mary Frances Peters was born near Glendale in Hardin County, Kentucky, on November 6, 1914, to Frank and Ruby Wooldridge Jeffries, one of five children. She started her education in a rural country school there in Kentucky. In 1920 the family moved to Iowa, and she attended rural country schools and later attended Guthrie County High School in Panora taking the teachers course offered there, and taught for a time in country schools in Cass Township. As a girl she became a member of the Methodist Church in Yale, Iowa and also attended Victory No. 6 Sunday School in Coon Valley. In December 1936 Mary was married in Panora, Iowa to Clarence Peters of Bagley. They lived on a farm near Bagley for many years. Here, four children were born to them: Mary Joan, Jean, Jeri Kay and James. During this time she was baptized into the Church of Christ in Bagley . She was active in community, church, and school affairs, helping with girls 4H, the Band Club, a member of the Country Club, and a charter member of Young Matrons' Missionary Society. In 1959 the family moved to Denver, Colorado. There she was den mother for Cub Scouts, member of Parent-Teacher Association and worked as a clerk in a Montgomery Ward store for many years. In 1970 Mary, Clarence, and son Jim moved back to Bagley. She worked as a Certified Nurses Aid in Bayard for several years, belonged to 50+ Club and helped with volunteer work at Bayard Care Center. Clarence passed away in 1983. In 1987 she moved to Perry to be near her sister, Marjorie. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruby Jeffries, brother Paul Jeffries, sisters Helen Wine and Marjorie Cornelius, daughter Mary Joan Griffith Owen, and sons-in-law Ross Griffith and James Walter. Survivors include brother William Jeffries and his wife Dee and three daughters and their six grandchildren, son James Peters, his wife Connie, and their children Julian Peters and Hanna Peters; daughter Jeri Walter, her sons Christopher Walter and Mike Walter and his wife Jeanine and their children Camden and Chelsea Walter; daughter Jean Grove and husband Tom and their son Brian Grove; Mary Joan Griffith Owen's children Megan Griffith and Kevin Griffith and his wife Catherine and their children Ian and Alec.
