A service for Mary Schoonover Gaskill was held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Pastor David Welch of the Arapahoe Christian Church in Arapahoe, Nebraska provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: Virgil Short, Ron Short Sr., Ron Short Jr., Gary Huitt, John Kastner, Dan Ruggle and Paul Montgomery. Marjorie Vannatta was the Pianist. Hymns chosen were In The Garden and Life's Railway to Heaven. Interment took place at Morrisburg Cemetery in Guthrie County, Iowa. Mary Louise Schoonover Gaskill, daughter of Erwin A Schoonover and Velma Huitt Schoonover Short, was born in Redfield, Iowa on March 20, 1932 and died August 2, 2013 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81. Mary was raised in Dallas County most of her life and attended schools in Des Moines, Adel and Perry Iowa. She graduated from Perry High School in 1950. Mary lived with her grandparents Walter and Bessie Huitt for many years while she worked in Perry. On November 6, 1955 Mary was united in marriage to Robert Dale Gaskill, at the Fontanelle United Methodist Church, and they resided in Little Rock, Arkansas while Robert was in the United States Air Force. To this union was born 3 daughters: Deborah in 1956, Denise in 1957, and Joan in 1960. The family moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1957. Where Bob managed the Carl Anderson Automotive Warehouse and Supply and Mary babysat for several families for 36 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert (2001), daughter Denise Gaskill in 1958, and brother Doyce. Mary is survived by daughters Deborah and Joan Gaskill of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers Virgil Short and his wife Mona Kay of Ames, Iowa and Ronald D. Short Sr. of Perry, Iowa; sister-in-law Frances Gaskill of Omaha, Nebraska; numerous nieces & nephews, other relatives and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
