Matthew Barnett

Matthew Barnett of Winterset died, Saturday, September 15, 2018, at the Madison County Hospital in Winterset. He was 19 years old. A memorial service will begin at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 20, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation related to helping those struggling with addiction. Online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Matthew Dean Curtis Barnett was born in Russellville, Arkansas on February 9, 1999, to Timothy and Melissa (Harris) Barnett. Matthew attended school in Atkins and was very active in football, baseball and basketball. When he was in 3rd grade his baseball team was state champions. He and his family moved to Winterset in 2009 and he graduated from the Woodward Academy in 2017. He enjoyed fishing, playing video games and spending time with his niece, Scarlett whom he adored. All this said, Matthew was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend who wanted nothing more than to be able to help others. Matthew is survived by his parents, Tim and Melissa Barnett; siblings, Tori Harris, Travis Barnett all of Winterset, and Tanner Bower (Kaylee Jensen) of Creston and his niece, Scarlett Schmidt. He is also survived by grandparents, Cathy Barnett (Merle Bensley) of Indianola; three aunts, Terrie Brown and Paula (Gene) Margison of Atkins, AR, Julie (Junior) Howard of Jacksonville, AR, and uncle, David Harris (Linn Helton) of Magazine, AR; extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Paul and Libby Harris.
