Matt was born on March 1st, 1965 to Carolyn and Ray Freylack in Des Moines, IA. As a lifelong south sider, Matt attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School. He graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1983, going on to attend the University of Iowa. Growing up with many siblings, Matt enjoyed spending time with his family, both immediate and extended, in Shell Lake, WI and at the Birdland Marina, on the Des Moines River, which his family owned until 1993. As he grew older, his connection with water never left him. He was an avid boater and lover of the River, his 2nd home and favorite place on the planet. He also enjoyed traveling to Lake Okoboji for trips with family, as well as many beloved friends. Matt worked in many fields throughout his life and was gifted with the ability to fix nearly anything! He had a passion for engines of all kinds. He was always excited to watch NASCAR or attend a NHRA drag race. Matt was also an avid football fan loving all things Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers. He loved animals, especially his 2 dogs, Edie and Faye. He was a man of the Earth, who believed in the Heavens. Matt spent many years bringing Communion to those in Hospice or who could not attend Mass and spent at least 20 years, 2x per week, attending Perpetual Adoration of the Holy Eucharist. He loved Jesus and was a special soul with a deeply committed faith in God’s promises. To know Matt, was to know that. In 2005, he married his soulmate, Galit, spending over 16 years sharing the journey of their lives with one another. He adored time with those he loved and had a special gift of spreading joy, creating laughter, counseling and helping anyone in anyway. Matt has made an everlasting impact because he touched so very many lives. The ripple effect of his love may never be fully known. He will be remembered and missed by so many, but his legacy will live on in each of our hearts as we honor him and all he brought to us. Although physically gone, Matt is still touching our hearts and guiding our way by the example of his love, loyalty, kindness and generosity of Spirit. Matt is survived by his wife, Galit Levy Freylack; siblings, Thomas Freylack, Nancy Valone, Susan Freylack, David (Peggy) Freylack, Mary (John) Smahaj, John Freylack, Joseph (Christina) Freylack and Kate (Art) Coppola; a plethora of nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews,; several aunts and uncles; many cousins and extended family; dear friends and Godchildren.
