Matthew Hull

Matthew John Hull, 25, passed away on January 20, 2023. He was born on February 20, 1997 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended Holy Trinity throughout Middle School where he participated in band and attained the rank of Life Scout with the Boy Scouts of America Troup 77. He then went on to Hoover High School where he graduated in 2015.

Matthew’s biggest passion in life was music which started when he was only 3 years old when he wrote his first song. At age 6, he learned to play the guitar and drums. During his middle school years, Matthew was seen outside frequently playing his guitar. He had such a passionate desire to share his techniques with the world. In High School, he took a trip with the Hoover Band to Italy, Austria, and Germany where he connected with other people and their culture and music, discovering that the solo cup stacking game was international and a tremendous ice breaker. Matthew was also a part of different bands over the years Stoopid, By Design, and most recently, On Hiatus. When he wasn’t performing, he worked full time at Pancheros in Waukee.

Impetuous both on stage and in life, Matthew made friends and helped people wherever life took him. He was an amazing guy, a complete performing artist and fun and caring who spread joy and rays of sunshine in the lives of everyone who knew him. He always made you feel at your best when you were around him. He will be missed.

He is survived by his parents Danny Hull and Cathy Hull; birth mother Keily Owens; half-siblings Donnie, William and Wannette Owens; godparents Richard (Lois) Schwemlein; and several aunts, uncles and extended family. He is preceded in death by his brother Taylor Lawrence Hull; Aunt Suzie Taylor; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A service will be held on Saturday, January 28th 2023 from 2:00-2:30 PM with a visitation to follow until 5:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale.
