Max J. Tucker, 89, formerly of Macksburg, died January 3, 2019 at his home in Winterset. A visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday January 8, at Ochiltree Funeral Service with burial to follow in the Moon Cemetery near Macksburg. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com. Max Jay Tucker, son of James “Ira” and Mattie (Cochran) Tucker, was born April 17, 1929 in rural Macksburg. He attended schools in the Macksburg area and graduated from Macksburg High in 1947. Max was united in marriage with Mary Jo Lull on June 29, 1952 at the Patterson Methodist Church in Patterson. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Max was a proud farmer for most of his life who had a passion for his land and the animals he raised. He also enjoyed being a salesman on the side selling anything from kitchen items to insurance. Max was a joker and especially enjoyed his “Dad” jokes. He was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. He was always tinkering whether he was fixing his farm equipment or working on cars; his hands stayed busy. Max was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend who cherished the time he spent with his friends and family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Mary Jo Tucker of Macksburg; five children, Brian Tucker of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Gregory (LeAnn) Tucker of Winterset; Renee Tucker of Des Moines; Noel (Teresa) Tucker of Odem, TX; Neal (Robin) Tucker of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren; Aaron (Megan Johnson) Tucker; Amy (Thad) Tussey; Trent (Jeanna) Tucker; Seth Tucker; Scott (Raquel) Tucker; Jordan (Ali) Tucker; eleven great grandchildren, Addison ; Brayden Tucker; Trey Tussey; Landri Tussey; Liam Tucker; Lance Tucker; Rowan Tucker; Raif Tucker; Catalina Tucker, Wyatt Tucker and Sawyer Tucker; sister-in-law, Ethel Lee Osbourne Tucker; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randal Tucker; grandson, Joshua Tucker; brothers, Dean (Dorothy) Tucker; Blaine (Darlene) Tucker; Keith Tucker; six sisters, Helen (Clinton) Walter, Eleanor (Art) Wickstrand, Kathryn (Max) Kyner, Jean (Wilmont) Perkins (Howard) Greenwood, Ruth Tucker.
