Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson is in charge of arrangements for Maxine Ebersole, 92 of Jefferson, died June 27, 2012. Services will be 10:30 Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson after 1 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Maxine is survived by her daughter Connie Johnston of Jefferson. Memorials may be left at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. A service for Maxine Ebersole was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Central Christian Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Pastor Julie Cornelius provided words of comfort. Music was provided by pianist, Danielle Curtis and soloist Gary Haupert. The songs were:"Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "In The Garden". The ushers were Jessie Custer and Jacqui Mentzer. Maxine's honorary casket bearers were: Iowa Hospice ~ Panora, Richard Peters, Jean Lowe, Marian Gustoff, and Deb Wills. Her active casket bearers were: Roy Peters, Randy Bunkers, Gary Louk, Lyle Brinker, Vernon Bancroft, and Dan Taylor. Interment was the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa. After the service at the cemetery a time of lunch and fellowship was held at the church. Memorials may be left at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Maxine Lucille Ebersole, daughter of Harry Clark Francis and Bertha Lucille Adkins was born February 17, 1920 in Yale, Iowa and died June 27, 2012 in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 92. Maxine grew up on the family farm two miles south east of Yale and attended Rural School form kindergarten through 5th grade. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1937. Maxine had moved to Jefferson with her parents to care for aging grandparents. On June 18, 1939 Maxine was united in marriage with Donel Bunn Ebersole at the Central Christian Church Parsonage. They made their home North of Jefferson on the family farm. Donel and Maxine had one daughter Constance Sue and a son Donel Max. Maxine was active on the farm with Donel and baled a lot of hay along side he and Connie. During high school, Maxine was secretary for Eleanor Garst. She worked with her father at friendly Food Market, also at Hazel's Coney Island, Harry's Meat Market and Bakers Locker. In later years, being a very spunky, gritty lady, she took a course at Iowa State in Dietary Management and proceeded to work at Jefferson Manor (now known as Regency Park and Rehab) for 37 years as a Dietary Manager's Associate. Maxine always loved people and enjoyed her memberships and her fellow workers. Maxine was a charter member of DOES, a member of Mid Country Club, and was active in Central Christian Church, serving on different committees. She was a 4-H leader for 21 years; 7 years as a girl's leader, 5 years on the County Committee, and 9 years on the horse and pony project. Maxine enjoyed horse back riding and was in 2 to 3 saddle clubs. She loved to dance whether it be square dancing and round dancing. Cooking, gardening, and sewing were also activities that Maxine enjoyed. She also enjoyed bird watching and completing cross word puzzles. She was the "go-to" person for her family's questions they could not solve. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Bertha Francis; husband Donel, son Donel Max, granddaughter Brenda Sue Johnston, and brother Glenn Francis. She will always be lovingly remembered by her daughter Constance Sue of Jefferson; grandchildren Susan Safarpour, her husband Dr. Dan and their children Mercedes, Remington, Sonia and Lea of Allamuchy, New Jersey; Brad Ebersole, his fiance Alisha and their daughter Krista of Jefferson; and Adam Ebersole, wife Lisa and children Gabe and Makenna of Jefferson; daughter-in-law Deann Ebersole of Jefferson; other relatives and many friends.
