Maxine Harpole, 83, of Prole, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 1, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, family will be present to receive friends at this time. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 2, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with burial to follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com. Velma Maxine Foust, daughter of Leo and Mable (Smith) Foust, was born August 20, 1932 in Des Moines. Maxine attended school in Spring Hill and graduated from Spring Hill High in 1950. She worked for the Department of Transportation in Des Moines for over 34 years. Maxine was united in marriage with Francis Harpole on July 24, 1976 in Indianola. She was a member of the Spring Hill Methodist Church and later attended Methodist Churches in the area. Maxine was a loving person who was known to be the caretaker of her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards and loved cats, especially kittens. Above all else, Maxine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished nothing more than the time spent with her family. Maxine is survived by her husband, Francis Harpole of Prole; daughter, Doris Ann (Gil) Palmer of Indianola; step-children, Linda (Dennis) Kraft of Winterset; Jim (Karen) Harpole of Newhall; step son-in-law, Mike Kirk; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; numerous step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step daughter Karen Kirk; brothers, Don and Bill Foust; sister, Helen Moore; half-brother, Carl Van Pelt; half-sisters, Wilma O’Neil and Vivian Sorenson.
