Meridene Alma Johnson

Meridene Alma Johnson, daughter of Grover Cleveland Mullican and Irene Blanche Goodyear Mullican, was born March 8, 1916 in Stuart, Iowa, and died November 12, 2008 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 4 days. Shorty, as she was lovingly known, started school in Stuart, and then moved with her family to Trenton, Missouri, later to Guthrie Center and then Panora. After her schooling she married Clarence Ott and they farmed near Guthrie Center. They later moved to Jefferson with their children: Estel, Dean, Gerald, Don, Paul, and Jackie. Shorty had worked in restaurants including Schoppes, Mitchells, Mary Gilmore's, and the Dairy Sweet. She had also worked at Crowley's. On June 12, 1964 she was united in marriage with Harris Joseph Johnson. Harris was delighted to get a daughter Jackie and her wonderful family which he and Shorty both enjoyed. Shorty also enjoyed crocheting, camping, and bowling. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Willard Mullican; step-son Dean Ott; great-grandson Logan Scheuermann in 2006; husband Harris on July 26, 2007. Shorty's family includes her daughter Jackie Graven and her husband Don of Jefferson; 4 step-sons: Estel, Gerald, Don, and Paul Ott; 8 grandchildren: Vicki Nation and her husband Dan of Jefferson, Iowa; Kevin Graven and his wife Meladee of Rippey, Iowa; Rodney Graven and his wife Sherry of Jefferson, Iowa; Danny Graven of Jefferson, Iowa; Julie Graven of Farmington, Arkansas; Janie Scheuermann and her husband Kent of Jefferson, Iowa; Jay Graven of Jefferson, Iowa; and Terry Graven of McKinney, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren: Ryan Nation and wife Nicole of New York City, NY; Jason Nation of Fayetteville, AR; and Ashley Nation and Rafa of Marshalltown, IA; Travis Graven of Waukee, IA; Kyle Graven of Rippey, IA; and Cory Graven and wife Kimberly of Cedar Rapids, IA; Derek and Jenna Graven both of Ames, IA; and Airicka Scheuermann and son Eyezayah of Cedar Falls, IA; and Lyndsie Scheuermann and Josh of Jefferson, IA; brother Roger Mullican and his wife Francis of California and brother-in-law Arnold Johnson and his wife Maxine of Missouri; other relatives and friends.
