Merlyn C. Faris, Jr., 62, of Macksburg, Iowa died Monday, March 11, 2013 at home. A visitation will be held 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 15 at Ochiltree Funeral Service, where family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16 at Ochiltree’s with burial to follow in the Moon Cemetery, Macksburg. Memorials may be directed to Middle River Hospice. On-line condolences may be made to the family at www.ochiltree.com. Merlyn Charles Faris, Jr. was born January 16, 1951 in Oakland, CA to Merlyn and Anna (Ackerman) Faris. His marriage to Jaime Madrid took place on March 31, 1980 in Martinez, CA. Merlyn worked construction all of his life and served a 5 year apprenticeship under the Steamfitters Local 342 in Concord, California to become a Steamfitter. He worked on various construction jobs in California and also worked outside of the state and was especially proud of his work on the Alaskan Pipeline. He was a member of the Steamfitters Union for 40 years. Merlyn has lived in Madison County since 1997. He loved horses and had a great love of the Bible and the Constitution. He also loved to sing. He will most of all be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved family. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jaime Faris of Macksburg; his mother, Anna Miller of Concord, CA; his six children; Naomi (Joe) Orcutt of Bay Point, CA; Rachel (Rob) Deikman of Oakland, CA; Sarah Faris of Pleasant Hill, CA; Merlyn (Leah) Faris III of Ankeny; Ruth Faris and fiancé Brian Berger of West Des Moines; Adam Faris of Macksburg and a grandson, Liam Faris. He is also survived by two sisters Carolyn (Joe) Shugart of Wichita, KS and Kathy (Don) Trinque of Benicia, CA. He was preceded in death by his father.
