Meta "Karen" Johnson

Meta Karen (Miller) Johnson, 83 of Adel, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2020 at her home. Services will take place at a later date. Meta was born on May 12, 1937 in Iowa City to Alden and Edna (Olsen) Miller and grew up with her four siblings, Shirley, Joan, Jim and Jack. She graduated from Storm Lake High school on May 26, 1955. Meta married Robert Nolan Johnson of Nemaha, IA on March 10, 1956 and to this union there were three children born. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in dietetics. She worked at the Cherokee hospital as a dietitian and then was a state health inspector for nursing homes in South Dakota until retirement. She loved her grandkids, taking pictures, desserts, going for walks and riding bikes with her grandkids, and gardening. Meta is survived by her daughters, Annie Rathke (Frank) of Humboldt, IA and Nancy Coffin (Jeff) of Adel, IA; son, Kevin Johnson of Mesa, AZ; sister, Shirley Hamann of Milford, IA; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by both parents; husband, Nolan; sister, Joan Cupp; brothers, Jim and Jack Miller; and great granddaughter, Tatyana Cirksena.
