Michael F. Schnoes, 59, of Adel, passed away Tuesday, April 17th at the Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center from complications of cancer of the esophagus. Mike was born on January 9, 1959 in Sioux City, the oldest of four children of Leo and Jane (Hueser) Schnoes. Mike graduated from Sioux City West High School in 1977 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Iowa. He passed his CPA exam in May 1981 and joined Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in Des Moines as a staff auditor in 1981, rising to the level of senior audit manager in his 18 years with the company. While in Des Moines, Mike met Jean Miller, his future wife, and they were married on May 19, 1984. After leaving KPMG, he went on to private practice, first with Schnoes & Dahm in West Des Moines, followed by his own practice of Schnoes & Company in Waukee. He and Jean were perhaps best known as the owners of the Waukee Ice Cream Shoppe, where they both thoroughly enjoyed interacting with local families and their employees. Mike loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, working on his acreage, canning fruits and vegetables, and spending time with his family and friends. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jean, as well as one brother, Robert and his wife Sandy of South Sioux City, Nebraska and one brother-in-law, Michael and his wife Vickie of Clarksville, Iowa. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews – David Miller (Ambarlee), Chris Miller (Jennifer), Sarah Lodge (Luke), Adam Schnoes (Jeannie), and Joseph Schnoes as well as many cousins, his church friends, his neighbors, and the many friends and professionals he met throughout his life. Special thanks go to Stephanie Longnecker, Jenni McKee, and Maggie Nugent for all their love and support throughout Mike’s cancer treatments and time in the hospital and hospice. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rick Schnoes; and a sister, Teresa Schnoes as well as his in-laws Galen and Phyllis Miller. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 20th at St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel from 5 to 7 p.m. with scripture at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Saturday, April 21st at 10:30 a.m. with burial immediately following the services at the Booneville Cemetery.
