Michael John Mcnamara - Winterset

Michael John McNamara, 80, of Winterset, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Dan Kirby officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Mike was born on October 3, 1932, at Des Moines, Iowa to Ernest and Marguerite (Beam) McNamara. He graduated from Winterset High School and later entered the US Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was married on August 10, 1970 at Indianola, Iowa to Barbara Jean Silverthorn. He had been a lifetime resident and a lifetime farmer of Winterset. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and American Legion Post #184 of Winterset. Mike is survived by his daughters, Connie (Paul) Bindel of Winterset, Vicki Tibben of Des Moines, and Toni (Dave) Moon of Winterset; sister, Katherine Monaghan of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Chad McFarland, Tax McFarland, Trevor Bindel, Justin Tibben, Amber Shultz, Kerry Wood, and Kirk Moon; great grandchildren, Libby Bindel, Lane Bindel, Kaylee Wood, Jayden Tibben, Demetrio Tibben, Killian McFarland, Cade McFarland, Hunter McFarland, and Rayvon McFarland; and nieces, Meg and Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marguerite (Beam) McNamara; wife, Barbara "Bobbi" McNamara; and daughter, Lyla Fish. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7 PM. Following will be a 7 PM Vigil Service. Memorials given to the family will be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
