Michael John Thompson

Michael John Thompson, age 74, of Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, surrounded by loved ones Please come to a visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m Thursday, January, 13, 2022 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale. A celebration of life service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Burial will take place after the celebration of life at Glendale Cemetery. Michael was born on February 28, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Michael James Thompson and Jeanice Sevilla (Freitag) Thompson. After graduating from East High School, Mike served in the US Army, during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the war, he worked various jobs, until ultimately becoming an auto mechanic for many years. From a very early age, Mike enjoyed working and tinkering on cars and motorcycles. He could fix almost anything, especially if it shined. Mike loved riding his Harley, playing pool, spending time with his family and spending lots of time in his garage. Mike married Janet Marie Essner on July 26, 1975, and they continued to build their life together for the next 46 years. Mike is survived by his wife, Janet; his three daughters, Tina (Mark) Van De Pol, Michelle (Nick) Capobianco and Samantha Thompson and Hiram Maxwell, and his 5 amazing grandchildren, Conner Stifel, Michael, Lia and Madison Capobianco, and Ellie Maxwell.
