Michael J. Green was with his family by his side when he was welcomed into heaven on February 15, 2023. Mike died from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Mike was born on March 14, 1948 to Leo Joseph (L.J.) and Rosemary (Schulte) Green in Anamosa, Iowa. Mike was raised in Cascade, Iowa. He graduated from Aquin High School, Loras College in Dubuque and Drake University Law School in Des Moines.
Mike met the love of his life, Mary (Edna) (Curoe) Green in High School. They celebrated 54 years of marriage in August. They built a beautiful life together filling their home with love and friendship and great times. They have four children and ten grandchildren, Brian Green and his daughter Addison Green; Christy Smith and her children with Dustin Smith, Rylie Smith, Lillie Smith and Kinnick Smith; Keri and Jamie Meis and their children, Jake Remsburg, Whitney Remsburg and Alexis Meis; and Kim and Jeremy Tasset and their children, Drew Tasset, Keaton Tasset and Kendall Tasset. Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Mike was preceded in death by his Father L.J. Green, Mother Rosemary Green, Brother Tom Green, Father in Law Harold Curoe, Mother in Law Naomi Curoe and Brothers in Law Tom Curoe and Jim Curoe.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Edna, his children, ten grandchildren, his brother Mark (Brenda) Green, sister in law Ruth Green, sisters in law Bernadine Curoe, Monica Curoe, brother in law Bill (Sheila) Curoe and several nieces and nephews.
Mike was a successful real estate and business attorney, practicing in Des Moines for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Polk County Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Mike was a devoted Catholic, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and serving as 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus in Council number 12422 and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Council number 3031.
We would like to thank the team of caregivers at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center and the Taylor House Hospice for the wonderful love and care they gave to Mike.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Iowa to help find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. Mike donated his body for medical research which will provide medical education to many others so he can continue to serve the living even in death.
Services for Mike will be at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in West Des Moines on Friday, February 24, 2023. The family welcomes you to join them for a visitation from 10am – 11am; Mass will follow at 11am.
