Michael Keith Hutchison was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 17, 1967 to Gerald and Jeanne Hutchison. Michael lived at home until he moved to Woodward State Hospital-School (now known as Woodward Resource Center) on September 19, 1980. Because his family could not find services to meet Mike's special needs in Alabama, he moved to Iowa to live close to his grandparents who lived in Des Moines. Applications were also made to several agencies that provided services for children. He moved to Faith, Hope, and Charity in Storm Lake, Iowa on November 18, 1980. He returned to Woodward State Hospital-School on January 3, 1981. Michael found his "home" at 101 Cherry, where he was well cared for and loved by many over the years. Michael began receiving hospice care on February 22, 2014 at the Medical Center at Woodward Resource Center after several hospitalizations. He passed away peacefully the morning of February 24, 2014. Michael is preceded in death by his father in 1977 and his maternal grandparents, Paul and Loveda Slaninger. Surviving are his mother, Jeanne Hutchison, from Birmingham, Alabama and his aunt, Mary Boyd, from Salem, Oregon. Mike had a very close and loving relationship with his grandparents. They always visited and made sure he was getting the best care possible. A son's love has never been more evident than Michael's love for his mother. When she visited, he basked in her presence with a smile beyond compare. They could be found sitting outside or the family area at Maple Lodge simply enjoying each other's presence. Michael will always be remembered for his big smile and twinkle in his eyes, his teasing and great sense of humor, playfulness, affection and love for his family, his determination, his love of bananas, and watching movies and the activity around him. www.hastingsfh.com
