Michael Keith Johnson

Michael Keith Johnson, 53, of Indianola passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2016. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Indianola. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the church, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Michael was born on June 12, 1963 in Iowa City, Iowa to his parents Keith and Marlys. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1981. Michael attended the University of Iowa for his undergraduate degree and Des Moines University to receive his doctorate. He worked at Broadlawns Medical Center as a physicians assistant while he was in medical school at Des Moines University. Michael married Dawn on August 27, 1988 in Mason City. He then worked for Mercy Clinic in Indianola for 16 years as a physician. He currently worked for EPA at Washington County Hospital. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed going to all Hawkeye sporting events. Michael helped coach many different sporting events. He was an assistant team doctor for the Iowa Barnstormers, Iowa Energy and volunteered his time at Indianola High School sporting events. He was especially proud of his children and enjoyed celebrating their accomplishments. Michael is survived by his wife, Dawn; children, Erica, Brandon, Nathaniel; parents, Keith Johnson and Marlys O’Brien; sister, Cindi (Chad) Jeffrey; mother and father-in-law, Keith and Evelyn Scott; sister-in-law, Susanna (Myron) Bokemper. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Dobbers Up or the Kiya Koda Humane Society.
