Michelle Straumanis passed away on January 4, 2023 at the age of 51 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loved ones who will continue to honor her. She was born to Darvin and Corinne Ladenthin on October 4, 1971 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Michelle was an exceptional wife and mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She loved spending time volunteering at their schools any chance she got. She also volunteered at various charity events over the years. She was a dedicated cancer society supporter, winning the 35th Annual Governor’s Volunteer Recognition Award in 2018.

Michelle immediately lit up any room she entered and made an impact on so many people. She was a joyful presence with her fun and inviting personality. She made friends everywhere she went. Most would describe her as unique, loyal and strong. She loved her family and friends and filled her home with warmth and kindness.

In her free time, Michelle enjoyed traveling with her husband to various places such as Phoenix, Arizona, Cabo and Michigan with the most recent being Glen Arbor. She spent the last 2 years staying active by working out at Pure Barre, hiking, and spending time outdoors. Even though her husband was the avid fisherman, she still managed to catch the “biggest walleye.” She also loved music and binge watching movies.

She will be missed by her husband Alex; children Olivia (11) and Benjamin (9); parents Corinne (Rick) Kober; sister Tracey (John) Lamoreux; step-siblings Greg (Eileen) Kober, Mike (Michelle) Kober, Chris (Becky) Kober, Angie Heldstab; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her father Darvin and her grandparents.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, IA. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, IA.
