Mike Cole, 47, of Winterset, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2020. Mike was a 1991 graduate of Winterset High School and went to work at various jobs over the years. He started working making cabinets with Olsen Cabinets, roofing with Randy Lee, and home construction with Steve Hartman. After his career in carpentry, he went on to work at The Computer Tree as an IT tech with his dad, Eldon. From there he moved on to work at Hawkeye Salvage and Trails End Auto Recycling as a salesman and IT tech for many years. Mike had a passion for history and ancestry. He enjoyed looking up his family history and could tell you many facts about the past. If Mike chose to start a project, he would immerse himself into it to the N’th degree. He would study and research until he knew everything about the subject. Mike also enjoyed building strong engines. He built his first high performance engine when he was 16. He eventually went on to build his very own pulling truck from scratch by acquiring parts over a 5 year period. He was a fanatic for details and was meticulous with his interests. Mike never knew a stranger and was as kind as they came. As ornery as he was, he would give anything to help someone in need. Even if they didn’t need the help. Mike is survived by his parents, Eldon and Velva Cole; sister, DeAnn (Tim) Luloff; brother, Tim (Angella) Cole; niece, Gracie Cole; nephew, Andrew Cole; great nieces, Ava and Mia Downing; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Estel and Juanita Welch, and Edward and Mildred Meyers. A visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2020 at New Bridge Church in Winterset. A funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2020 also at New Bridge Church.
