Edward Michael (Mike) Duff entered into eternal life on March 29, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31 from 4:30-7 p.m., and a Funeral Mass on Wednesday April 1 at 10:30 a.m., both at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Des Moines. Burial will be held on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter. Mike was born January 5, 1936 to Cyril and Leona Duff, and was a lifelong resident of the Beaverdale neighborhood of Des Moines. He was an alumnus of Holy Trinity Grade School and Dowling High School. Following his service in the United States Coast Guard, he married Gayle Pihart on April 30, 1960. Following a long career in sales, Mike retired in 1998. He enjoyed time spent with his wife and family, fishing, and following his favorite sports teams - the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa State Cyclones. Mike was an active member of Holy Trinity, helping organize its semi-annual garage sale for several years. Mike will be missed by his wife, Gayle; sons Kevin (Lana) Duff, Brian (Julie) Duff, Bob (Kim Bauer) Duff, and Tom (Benae) Duff, all of the Des Moines area; eleven grandchildren, Meghan (Jim Klier), Michael Duff, Nick Duff, Courtney Duff, Zach Duff, Katie Duff, Kelsey Duff, Sean Duff, Nicole Duff, Joshua Duff, and Lindsey Duff; five great-grandchildren, Dylan Klier, Daniel Klier, Dominic Klier, Quimby Duff and one due in July; brothers Pat Duff of Des Moines and Jerry (Judy) Duff of Lenexa, KS; many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
