Mina I. Speer

April 5, 1917 — February 23, 2008

Mina Illene Quick was born April 5, 1917 near Patterson, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and Flora (Potter) Quick. She graduated from Patterson High School in 1934. After graduation, Mina taught at the Ebenezer rural school for two years. Mina married Ernest B. Speer on May 23, 1937. After marrying Ernest, they started their farming career together and she was busy as a homemaker and mother. She and Ernest celebrated 65 years of marriage before his death in 2003. She is survived by her children, Wayne Speer (LaDonna) of Patterson, Iowa; Joyce Koehler of Indianola, Iowa and Marilyn Tibben (Frank) of Truro, Iowa; four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Mina was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Helen Quick; a grandson, David Scott Tibben and a son-in-law, Michael Koehler. She was a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church where she served as Chairman of the UMW. She was always active in the community, serving as a 4-H leader in Crawford Township as well as serving as Chairman of the County 4-H Committee and Vice Chairman of Madison County Farm Bureau Women. She enjoyed researching genealogy of her family. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing her violin and square dancing with Ernest. Mina passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Winterset Care Center North. She was 90. Visitation: Montpelier Cemetery in Patterson, Iowa. Service: Memorials may be directed to Winterset Care Center North Activity Fund or the Patterson United Methodist Church. Memorial: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., one hour prior to services, Saturday April 26, 2008 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa.
