Morgan Hancock

June 17, 2003 — April 5, 2018

Morgan Inez Hancock passed away peacefully surrounded by her nurses, friends and family April 5, 2018, at the age of 14 when God opened his arms and brought her home. She was born June 17, 2003, in Des Moines, Iowa, and brought delight to all those who encountered her. Morgan was an inspiration to all that met her with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh. As presented at her fifth-grade graduation from Prairie Trail Elementary, these words, spoken by her teacher, tell the story of Morgan’s impact on others: “Morgan brings out the best in people. She lights up the room with her excitement for school and being around her friends. She has learned patience as much as she teaches people patience.” For this, Morgan was presented the Fifth Grade Inspiration Award. Morgan was a social butterfly wherever she went. She delighted in the annual summer barbeque at her home. Morgan loved “The Voice”, listening to “Chuck Mangione”, Veggie Tales, audio books, school, teachers, friends, family and her nurses. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed going for walks outside year-round. She especially enjoyed listening to the birds. Now family and friends will be looking to the skies, thinking of her eternally free as a bird. Morgan was preceded in death by her grandmother, Barbara Jean McGuire, and her uncle, Charlie Martin McGuire. Morgan will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Kelly Ann and Bruce Robin Hancock of Ankeny, Iowa, and her sister, Charlotte; grandparents: Martin McGuire of Algona, Iowa, Joan Hancock of Ankeny, Iowa, and Bill Hancock of Booneville, Arkansas; aunts and uncles: Kathy McGuire, Carol (Dan) McClemons, Karen (John) Turk, Kristin (Bruce) Reese, and Bryant (Kristi) Hancock; many cousins, caregivers and friends. The family wishes to thank all who gave such loving care: Universal Nursing Services, Link Services, Ankeny School District, Child Serve, Mercy Pediatrics, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Shriners Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Hospice HCI. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church 1100 South East Sharon Drive, Ankeny, Iowa. A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday April 11, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Paul Lutheran Church with burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Memorials to be handled through Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale, Iowa.
