Services of Life for Robert Eugene Galivan were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Military Rites were performed by Michael Kelley and Dennis Glass of the American Legion Post #85. Interment took place at the Rippey Cemetery in Rippey, Iowa. Robert Eugene Galivan, son of Leota Pearl Davis and Robert Keith Galivan, was born on August 13, 1947 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and died December 20, 2013, 2013 at his home in Perry at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 7 days. Bob's family moved from Milwaukee after his birth to Perry where Robert attended Perry High School. Robert served honorably in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam war and afterwards returned to Perry where he married Karon Harrison in 1969. The couple made their home in Perry and had one son, William Galivan. Robert worked in several career areas during his life, including for the State of Iowa as an elevator inspector, for the United States Post Office as a postal carrier, and for several companies as a painter. He helped to design several types of lifts and elevators. His love of painting was what he always enjoyed the most. This included murals painted in his home in Perry. Robert retired when he was about 55 years old and continued to work part-time, mostly painting. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law Fred Elliott, uncles Halsey and Johnny Galivan, and an aunt, Beulah Smith. Robert is survived by his son, William Galivan (Paula) of Polk City and a granddaughter Samantha Rose Galivan also of Polk City; two brothers: Bryan (Mary) Galivan of Perry and Paul Crabb of Forsyth, MO.; one sister, Cathy Elliott of Jamaica; 9 nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. www.hastingsfh.com
