Carolyn Kay Monthei was born December 19, 1940 in Geneva, Nebraska to her parents Carl Gerhart Schriefer and Grace Wilhemina Boe Schriefer. She passed from this life on March 29, 2013 at the age of 72. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2012 at the Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was after 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Pastor Larry Monthei of the Cooper United Methodist Church provided words of comfort. Honorary casket bearers were Ben Vannatta, Willie Blasnitz, Dennis Ulrich and Nile Sealine. Casket bearers were Ken Countryman, Kirk Chapman, Dave Hick, Dale Thompson, Tom Dennhardt and Gary Schmidt. The pianist was Marjorie Vannatta and soloist was Ken and Deb Monthei. Music enjoyed was Precious Lord Take My hand, In The Garden, Here I Am Lord, Amazing Grace, Nearer My God To Thee and God Will take Care of You. Interment was at the Rippey Cemetery in Rippey. Carolyn moved with the family to Iowa in 1941 and lived on farms until moving to Des Moines in 1959. She attended several grade schools including Cass #5 Country School in Guthrie County. In 1959 Carolyn graduated from Perry High School. She then went on to attend Iowa Beauty School graduating in 1960. Upon graduating beauty school, Carolyn had a long forty-three year career as a Beautician working in Perry and Rippey. She later purchased the beauty shop owned by Eloise Overman where she had made many wonderful friends. On October 2, 1960 Carolyn married Gail Monthei and the couple made their home in Rippey for fifty-two years. This marriage was blessed with son Marc and daughter Carrie. Carolyn enjoyed her children's school activities through the years and attending the Iowa State Fair year after year. She also enjoyed camping, working in her yard and collecting white milk glassware. She also had a large collection of lovely glassware items that she had received as gifts from her customers over the years. Carolyn attended the Trinity Lutheran Church as a child and was presently a member of the Rippey United Methodist Church along with being a member of the Amity Club. Carolyn was a loving person with a pleasing personality. She was a caregiver to her parents, siblings, and immediate family. This trait passed on to her clients, her friends, and acquaintances. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her husband Gail, son Marc Monthei of Des Moines, daughter Carrie McCain and her husband Chris of Ogden, sister Shirley Hines of Perry, and other relatives and many, many friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her grandparents Jacob and Martha Schriefer and Emil and Anna Boe, parents Carl and Grace Schriefer, infant brother Gerald Gordon Schriefer, infant sister Donna Mae Schriefer, brother Wayne Schriefer and nephews Donnie Jeffries and Kenny Hines. hastingsfuneral@netins.net www.hastings.com 1417 Second Street, Perry, Iowa 50220.
