Mrs. Marcelyn "Marcy" Holmes

A service for Marcelyn "Marcy" Holmes was held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was Monday after 12:00 with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Rev. Tim Johnson of the First Christian Church in Perry, Iowa provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were: Ron Brown, Jeremy Whelchel, Daren Marshall and Bobby Brock. Donna Emmert was the musician who played "Goin' Home" and "The Wind Beneath My Wings". Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the American Legion Hall. Marcelyn "Marcy" Holmes, daughter of Charles Oliver Wall and Clara Cabelka, was born May 13, 1925 and died January 31, 2013 at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa at the age of 87. Marcy grew up in Panora with her brother Melvin Wall. Marcy graduated from Panora High School in 1942. On December 21, 1944, in Adel, Marcy was united in marriage to Darrell Dean Holmes of Linden. They were blessed with three children: Tom, Kathy, and Cheryl. The family lived on a farm near Panora, where Marcy was a stay at home mom and did farm work. Marcy and her family moved to Perry. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of all of her great home cooking, especially her macaroni and cheese. Marcy joined in the Antique Business, Darrell's Antiques and Collectables, where she found her expertise in glassware. They owned the store for over 20 years. Marcy had a lifelong love of music When she and Darrell were younger they would spend every Saturday night at Lake Robbins dancing. Marcy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrell in 1999, her brother Melvin Wall, and his wife Ramona. Marcy is survived by one son Tom of Perry, Iowa; two daughters: Cheryl Bell and her husband David of Ocala, Florida; and Kathy Thornburg and her husband Jerald of Perry, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Tamara Lynn Holmes of Coon Rapids, Iowa; Julie Ann Collins and her husband Brian of Jacksonville, Florida; Lisa Marie Marshall and her husband Daren of Saylorville, Iowa; Janelle Whelchel and her husband Jeremy of Perry, Iowa and Jill Brock and her husband Bobby of Perry, Iowa; 13 great-grandchildren: Megan, Dylan, Brittany, Justine, Todd, Katelyn, Karley, Kamryn, Karagyn, Kalley, Jayse, Kaylee, and Khloe. Marcy is also survived by her brother-in-law Norman Holmes, nieces, nephews, and many friends. www.hastingsfh.com
