Mrs. Sharon Kay Steadman

Funeral services were held for Sharon Kay Steadman at 10:30 a.m. November 19, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Pastor Charles Compton of the Perry Bible Church provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: all her nieces and nephews, Orville Brown Jr., Jeff Palmer, Robert Brown, Raymond Steadman III, and David Hidlebaugh. Casket bearers were Raymond Steadman Jr., Richard Steadman Jr., Rich Devilbiss, Doug Devilbiss, Eric Derry and Benji Devilbiss. Music that was played was Still; When I Get Where I'm Going; The Old Rugged Cross and Holes In The Floor of Heaven. Burial services were at Violet Hill Cemetery, Perry, Iowa. Sharon was born March 6, 1948 in Pattonsburg, Missouri the daughter of Evelyn Irene Neiderhauser and Orval L. Brown and died Nov 14, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 65 years 8 months and 8 days old. When Sharon was three years old, she moved with her family to Iowa. She received her education in Woodward. Sharon married Raymond Leo Steadman Sr. October 5, 1963 and they were parents of Melodie and Raymond Jr. The family lived in the Perry area except for a two to three year period where they lived in Fort Dodge. Sharon worked for the Melanie Grill in Fort Dodge. After returning to Perry, Sharon worked at the Grimes Cannery for a time and the Woodward State Hospital School. She assisted Raymond in his tree business and always did the bookwork. She devoted herself to her family, being a good homemaker and mother. She showed her love for others in many ways, one huge way as guardian for Gilbert Miner. For several years Sharon lovingly assisted Wilma Bess. Sharon's entire family was very dear to her and she especially enjoyed the get-togethers with the large group that would gather. Playing cards, games with her grandchildren and going to Meskwaki. One of her all big time favorites was playing BINGO. As with her entire family of sisters, she was an excellent cook and many times came up with her own concoctions. Sharon enjoyed being outdoors and could be seen sitting outside her home enjoying the people passing by. A very unique interest Sharon had was dressing up as a clown and had many clown garments and accessories. She had a collection of clowns also. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Patricia, and husband Raymond in 1989. Sharon will be deeply missed by her son Raymond Jr. (April) and daughter Melodie Courtney all of Perry; six grandchildren, Amber Green (Eric Derry); Cheyanne Courtney; Jordan Kay Courtney; Tabby Silbaugh (Eric Augustine); Raymond Steadman III; and Nicole Steadman: three great grandchildren, Jazmine, Kyeo, and Trinity Augustine. Nine siblings also survive: Shirley Steadman (Richard) of Rippey; Lola Farley (John) of Casey; Doris Westphal of Des Moines; Linda Birch (Scott Westering) of Carroll; Beverly Devilbiss of Bagley; Betty Bebout (Steve) of Woodward; Rose Lemke of West Des Moines; Robert Brown and Orville Brown Jr. both of Perry; her in-laws, Lee and Sharon Steadman of Jefferson; Joe Steadman of Perry; Linda Johnson (Mike) of Bagley; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
