Mary Kay Schmidt, daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Prichard) Engelhart was born on June 3, 1952 at Storm Lake and died on April 22, 2013 at her home in Rippey. Mary was 60 years, 10 months and 20 days old. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. at the Rippey United Methodist Church in Rippey. Visitation was after 12:00 p.m. Friday with family present from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Pastors Enna Antunez and Paul Burrow of the Rippey United Methodist Church provided words of comfort. Honorary casket bearers were her grandchildren: Sebastian Ramirez, Joshua Schmidt, Jaxson Schmidt, Kristany Schmidt, Gregory Miller, Samantha Miller, Amanda Miller and Alexis Miller. The organist was Marjorie Vannatta and soloist Brenda Roberts. Music sang was Amazing Grace and Goodbye For Now. Ushers were Nancy Hanaman and Colleen Anderson. Interment will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake. Mary married Gary Schmidt and the couple made Rippey their home where they raised two daughters and one son. Mary worked at the Ampride store in Perry and babysat a number of children. Mary was a caregiver for her family and for others in the community. Mary enjoyed sewing, baking, soap operas and all types of crafts. Mary was active in her church and assisted with group quilting and cross stitching projects as well as all church activities. Mary particularly enjoyed collecting "Pooh" Bears. The most important thing to Mary was her family. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Jimmy and Chuck Engelhart. She is survived by her daughters Tracy Miller (Doug) of Storm Lake and Kristy Ramirez of Rippey and a son Justin Schmidt of Boone; brother Dennis Engelhart of Storm Lake, sister Jerrie Hummel (Tom) of Storm Lake and sister-in-law Grace Engelhart of Sioux City, along with her eight grandchildren.
