Nancy Lynn Barnett, 74, of Des Moines, passed away of pulmonary arterial hypertension on November 13, 2022.
A visitation will be held on November 29, 2022 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m., November 30, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Rising Sun Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Food Bank of Iowa.
Nancy was born on June 8, 1948 in Columbia, MO. Her father, Roger G. Barnett, served as a U.S. Army Captain in WWII, fighting in Europe and in the Battle of the Bulge where he earned two Bronze Stars for valor. He worked in advertising and sales. Her mother, Patricia J. Barnett, was a graphic artist, batik artist, copywriter and an assistant advertising director.
Nancy received her bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University with a Major in English. She attended a summer graduate program in Angers, France and received her master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
She lived throughout the Midwest including Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Oelwein, Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago, Des Moines and Dana Point, CA. She began her work life as a teacher, then a communications director, practice developer, business analyst and various corporate positions. She was thankful for all the wonderful people she worked with and for all the wonderful growth.
She was grateful for the expert and compassionate care she received from Dr. Frantz, Dr. Cajigas and Diane Bray, RN of the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Gloor, her palliative care team and her EveryStep Hospice team.
Nancy is survived by her sister Kathryn J. Barnett and great friends and family; cousins, Diane Hayes (Tom Creviston); children, David Rugger, and Zack Creviston; Jeff Hayes (Susan Crowley); children, Jessica Hayes, Sarah Hayes, and Michael Crowley; and Judy Cosimini (Tony); children, James Cosimini and Anna Cosimini. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Patricia Barnett.
