Nellie Lois Black Cochran

August 2, 1915 — April 24, 2007

Nellie was born August 2, 1915 in Webster Township, Iowa, to A. O. and Nora (Hoots) Black. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1931 and later finished training to become a teacher. She taught country school for three years. On March 8, 1947, Nellie was united in marriage to William Kirk Cochran. They were blessed with one son, Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kirk; her son, Wayne; and six siblings, Charles, Glenn, Paul, Maurice, Lorene and Leone. Nellie and her husband received the Century Farm Award in 1976. She was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Wayside Garden Club. Nellie was also a member of the Columbian Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Winterset Square Dance Club and the Red Hat Club. Nellie took much joy in playing bingo, bowling, square dancing, playing the organ and collecting angels. Survivors include her sister, Helen Crawford of Winterset, IA; her sister-in-law, Ida Black of Silver City, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday where family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. April 26, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa. Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset Memorial: Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.
