Nina Rutherford Madsen - Adel

Nina Myrtle Rutherford received her Angel Wings peacefully at home on January 28, 2013. Nina was the youngest of 8 children born to Charles Clinton Rutherford and Nellie Cahail Rutherford. She was born May 8, 1918, on a farm near Guthrie Center, Iowa. She was the only one from her family to graduate from high school. Nina married Loyal LaVere Wine in 1937 in Panora Iowa. They raised 3 daughters: Lindy Sheehy of Adel, Jackie Daniel (David) of Rochester, MN, and Pam Tryon (Ron) of Adel. Nina raised her family in Panora, IA, where she worked on the farm until the early 1950's when she began a 25 year career in bookkeeping at the Panora CO-OP Elevator. Nina later lived in Des Moines, IA; Walker, MN and Pharr, TX. She lived in Adel for the past 16 years. Nina had logged over 3,000 volunteer hours at the Rio Grande Hospital in McAllen, Texas, and over 3,800 volunteer hours at Iowa Methodist Medical Center at both downtown and West Des Moines locations. She was very independent and drove each week. She was also crowned the hospital's "Queen for a Day" on her 94th birthday. Nina managed her own farm, did the accounting and figured her own taxes until the last 2 years. She was very skilled at the computer and played mahjong with several groups. Over the last few years she had a cottage industry making "PRAYER SQUARES." She had given away hundreds for comfort and gifts and sold them at gift shops as well as book and bible stores. Nina leaves her 3 daughters, Lindy, Jackie, and Pam; son-in-laws, David and Ron; 14 grandchildren, Jim (Yvonne), John, Tammy, Judy, Stavros, Kimberly (Steve), Jeff (Casey), Michelle (Gene),Kristen, Heather (Shay), Lorelei (Nick), Scott (Laura), Kristi (Brad), Laurie (Colby); 32 great grandchildren, Heather (Monty), Courtney (Steven), Jacquelynn, Corderro, Gabrielle, Alex, Clinton, Raychelle, Jessica (Nate), Jordan, Tommy, Lucus, Lindy, Austin, Emily, Alex, Courtney, Chelsea, Katelynn, Michael, Xander, Natty, Casey (Eric), Chase, Nicole, Briley, Carter, Mackenzie, Gage, Zachary, Braylon and Bryce and 8 great- great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Trinity, Kadence, Alexis, Aidan, Isaac, Brianna, and Rudy to remember her memories. Nina was one of a kind, a joy to others and fun to be around. She touched so many lives in so many ways.
