Norma Jean Greenwood

February 22, 1936 — April 14, 2017

Norma was born and raised as the youngest of 4 on a wonderful rural property in Madison County near the Roseman covered bridge. She attended a small one room school house in her early years before going to school in the big city (Winterset). While there, events were set in motion that saw her raise 3 wonderful children and a multitude of various mammals, fish and reptiles. She was also able to enjoy the talents God gave her as an artist and musician. Norma had a gentle soul and generous heart. Her house was always open to friends and family. The home she made on 46th Street in Des Moines was well known as the place all of her friends could collect to laugh and share good times. It is a rare thing when even the friends of her children will recall the openness and comfort felt when within her walls. Norma was an adventurer at heart. In the seventies and eighties, she had the opportunity to enjoy trips to the northwest, England, Wales, Germany and best of all, the Isle of Wight. When she traveled, she had no set agenda to the chagrin of many, and enjoyed the people, the sites and sounds. Her later years were spent in Beaverdale with family and friends as regular visitors to her apartment. She enjoyed hearing about the trials, tribulations and successes of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a remarkable ability to out remember the memories of her children on many occasions. Norma will be missed, but more importantly remembered, for all the wonderful times, smiles, and the occasional tears. Her openness, and fondness for caring about others made her a joy to be with. Her children will continue to share the stories, yes mom, ALL of the stories, about her life to each new generation (except a few in the seventies, let's let those go). Love you mom, Steve, Dana, Brenda
