Norma Jane Kirk was born on February 21, 1932 to Joseph and Susie Belle (Camp) Kirk at home on a farm north of Lorimor in Madison County, Iowa. Their surprise fourth child, she was spoiled and adored by her parents and her older siblings Kathleen, Gerdon, and Richard. She attended Shipley School, Monroe #7 through eighth grade and then attended and graduated from Winterset High School, class of 1950. She was baptized at the age of 12 at the Madison Chapel Church of Christ in rural Clarke County, where her family attended regularly.

On June 25, 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, David Hines, at Madison Chapel. To this union were born three daughters, Nancy Jane, Lynn Kay, and Holly Sue. They farmed and raised their daughters on their small farm north of Lorimor until David’s death in 1974. During this time, Norma also worked at the Madison County ASC Office. Following David’s death, she went to work as a secretary at Winterset High School. On April 4, 1976, she was united in marriage to Ronald Woodley, with whom she had attended country school. After her marriage to Ronald, she stayed home, helping as a farm wife. They enjoyed 33 years together, camping and traveling all over the United States, including trips to Hawaii and Alaska. Ronald passed away in 2009.

Norma was proud of her status as a 73-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, first in Lorimor and then in Winterset. She was an active member of the Harmony Guild Study Club and the Merry Fu Book Club. She spent many hours sewing and creating matching outfits for her grandchildren. She was never idle and if she sat down, she was crocheting. What she loved most was her family. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and they loved Grandma just as much as she loved them.

Norma is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Fred) Hauser, Holly (Don) Schutz; stepdaughter, Peggy (Carl) Kirkland; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Gary Smith) Mountain, Sally (Michael) McDonald, Jill (Kenny) McDonald, Jayne (Diogenes) Ayala, Ben (Randi) Wagner, Kaleb (Stacy) Schutz, Kalli (Rainer) Hildebrand, and Laura (Brandon) Brimm; 13 step-grandchildren, Jeff Fizer, Teresa Reiste, Jackie Fizer, Tony Fizer, Jamie Holste, Robert Kirkland, James Kirkland, Thomas Kirkland, Kevin Mountain, Don Henderson, Karla Worrall, Terry Schutz, and Doug Schutz; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; 27 step-great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Bill Hines; sister-in-law, Phyllis Woodley; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
