Norman Dale Koons 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday October 21, 2019 at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. He was born on August 4, 1933 to Howard and Hildreth Koons of Knoxville, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday October 28 at 9:30 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, by Van Meter, Iowa. Norman finished 8th grade and began working for a farmer to help support his family. He went in the Army on November 1, 1950 and served in the Korean war and later was sent to Officer Training. Norman could not bear to be away from his childhood sweetheart Norma and went AWOL. Norman and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1953 Norman married Norma Salsberry on November 8, 1952 and made their home in Knoxville, Iowa. To this union there were four children born, Lonnie, Randy, Debra and Beth. He worked for Associated Grocers most of his life while Pastoring a few churches. He was the founding Pastor of Gospel Chapel of Menlo, Iowa. He enjoyed visiting with people and never met a stranger. People truly loved Norman and he will be missed by so many. Norman is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren, Marion, Leland, Bobby, and sisters, Karen, Connie and Carley. He is survived by his wife, Norma; sons, Lonnie (Roxanne) Koons, of Van Meter, Randy (Judy) Koons, of St. Charles; daughters, Deb (Steve) Sheldahl, of Peru, Beth Schurman, of Mena AR; 10 grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Also his siblings, Phyllis (Kenneth) Witte of Tucson AZ, Correne (Randy) Bennett of Knoxville, Butch (Paula) Koons of Knoxville, Gwen Bly of Des Moines, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
