Omer Perry Bennett, Jr.

Hastings Funeral Home in Perry were in charge of Private family burial arrangements which were held for Omer Perry Bennett Jr., September 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Violet Hill Cemetery, Perry, Iowa. Omer Perry Bennett Jr., son of Omer Perry Sr. and Sarah "Sadie" Bennett, was born December 25, 1931 in Rippey, Iowa and passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. Omer graduated from Perry High School in 1951 and was married to the late Jeanie Bennett on September 19, 1952. He and Jeanie lived in Ankeny for 31 years and Diamondhead Lake for 10 years before moving back to Perry. Omer served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. After serving he went on to work as an Electrician Foreman with I.B.E.W. Local #347. He was a member of the Perry Elks Lodge and loved playing poker, pitch, cribbage and the slots. He was a great fisherman and also enjoyed pheasant hunting in his spare time. Omer enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will always be remembered for his comic remarks and great laugh. Omer was preceded in death by his wife Jeanie, parents, son Andrew, brothers Ed, Don and Pete, and sister Helen. He is survived by daughter Letitia Dunlap of Pueblo, CO; sons Scott Bennett of Des Moines and David (Teresa) Bennett of Ankeny; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Rescue League in his loving memory.
