Opal Mccamley

Opal Lucille McCamley daughter of George Marvin Brancroft and Verda Fern Mowrey Brancroft was born August 21, 1921 in Coon Rapids, Iowa and died October 11, 2012 at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines, Iowa. She was 91. Opal graduated from Coon Rapids School in Carroll County in 1940. After Opal finished school she took care of families that just had new babies and those that had ill health, then she worked as a store clerk at the Cash & Carry Store. Opal and Charlie McCamley were united in marriage on December 4, 1945 at the Carroll Methodist Parsonage.. The couple was blessed with one daughter Trudy Rae. They lived in the same home in Coon Rapids until 1969 when Charlie quit driving truck When Trudy was in the 7th grade Opal worked at Armour's until they closed, then she worked at a Bakery. Opal worked at a grocery store in Coon Rapids before her and her family moved to Perry. She got a job at Dunn's Grocery Store, then at Stoner's Meat Market in Perry. In 1984 Opal retired. She was a member of the Coon Rapids Christian Church, Humane Society, ARL & Cancer Society. Opal was a very giving person. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading and she loved animals. Opal made a lot of friends in the short time she lived at Fountain West. Opal is preceded in death by her parents George and Verda Brancroft, husband Charlie McCamley(1999), sisters: Vera Fern Bancroft (1918), Shirlee Maureen Dobson (1992), and Thelma Agnes Zimmerman (2012). Opal is survived by her daughter Trudy Kelley of West Des Moines, grandson Anthony Kelley of Grand Junction, granddaughter Sarah Kelley of West Des Moines, other relatives and many, many friends.
