Orville dedicated his service to the United States Army, faithfully serving his country until his honorable discharge on March 31, 1964. He was a devoted member of Walnut Valley Assembly of God in La Puente, California, where he served as a board member, treasurer, and choir singer. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life.
He worked for American National Can Corporation for many years before retiring. Following retirement, Orville and Mavis relocated to Perry, Iowa, where Mavis later passed away in 1997. He later married Shirley Hensen, and they shared many wonderful years together.
Orville and Shirley traveled around the United States during their retirement and one of their favorite trips was to the Greater Boston area to see the fall leaves at peak color. Orville loved maps and enjoyed looking up addresses and the navigation of travel.
