Pamela Jackson

February 7, 1946 — November 5, 2021

Pamela Iyamide Jackson, 75, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was surrounded by her loving family. Pamela, affectionately known as Pam, was born on February 7, 1946 to Sholla Thompson and Frederick Thompson in Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa. She was the only girl of five children. She met the love of her life, James Jackson in 1967 and they were joined in marriage in December, 1980. From this union they raised five beautiful children. Pam loved God and served him faithfully at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa for many years. Professionally, Pam worked for the Department of Employment Services in Des Moines, Iowa for a number of years prior to her retirement. Pam enjoyed traveling with family with friends, particularly vacationing on cruise ships. Pam enjoyed quilting and sewing. Most family and friends have items they treasure which was made personally by Pam. Pam had a heart made of gold, and would help anyone in need. She regularly checked in with friends, just to see how they were doing, even when she at times, wasn’t feeling the best herself. While Pam experienced her fair share of challenges, she never allowed that to be a deterrent for her love of living and appreciating life’s many blessings. Pam was an exceptional cook and often showed her love by making your favorite dish. Pam was a gatherer of friends. People migrated to Pam and she created a sense of community where she embraced everyone that she met. Her home was place where you felt love, joy and most importantly welcomed. Preceding her in death is her father, Frederick Thompson, mother, Sholla Thompson, siblings, Bamie Thompson, Omotayo Thompson. Pam was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Christopher Jackson, Joella Spaine, Josephine Jackson; Annie Jackson, Patricia Johnson (Eugene); and grandchildren; Safie Jackson, Abigail Jackson, Pamela Ella Jackson, and Zenia Jackson. She will greatly be missed by those whose life she touched. The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during this hour of bereavement. May God bless and keep all of you!
