Patricia, “Pat” Torpy, age 89, of Adel, went home to be with the Lord on Feb 5, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Adel, with burial following at Prarie Lawn Cemetery near Creston. Family will greet friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the church before the service. Patricia was born July 26, 1932 to Glenn and Ruby (Sampson) Beatty. She graduated from Orient High School in 1949, and married Robert “Bob” Standley in 1950. Together they had six children, and settled in Adel in 1965. Patricia was widowed in 1977. She lived in Adel until 1984, when she married Joseph “Joe” Torpy. Pat and Joe resided in West Des Moines until 1995, when they built their dream home in Adel. Pat was very excited to return to the town she had called “home” for so many years. Pat relished time spent with her family, whether it be hosting Sunday dinners or entertaining at extravagant holiday gatherings. She especially adored her grandchildren! She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, cooking, gardening and baking. She proudly displayed her multiple Blue Ribbons from her Iowa State Fair entries over the years. Pat was truly a pillar of the community. She served on the Adel School Board, and was one of the first women mail carriers in Adel in the 1970’s. Later, she was very involved with the Adel Public Library, serving on the Library board for several years. Many ADM alumni have very fond memories of Pat, as she passionately coordinated and helped deliver school lunch in Adel for many years. She was involved in Adel Women’s Club, T.T.T., United Methodist Women, Toastmasters, and multiple bridge clubs in Adel and West Des Moines. Pat was a lifelong bowler, and bowled in league until the age of 85. Pat is survived by her siblings, Carl Beatty and Betty Dory; her children, Dennis Standley, Nanci Howard, Daniel “Ross” (Kathy) Standley, Douglas (Suzanne) Standley, Marcia Page, Michelle (Terry) Greiner; and her step-children, Dan (Lynne) Torpy, Tricia (Randy) Bair, Mary (Jeff) Lefeber, Tom (Mary) Torpy and John (Heather) Torpy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Wendy, Tina, Heath, Amanda, Derek, Devan, Dustin, Tyler, Andrew, Nick, and Alex; and her step-grandchildren, Ethan, Elise, Kyle, Rachel, Ryan, Tatum, Talia, Aiden, Claire, Emily and Anna, along with ten great grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Standley; her second husband, Joseph Torpy; her brother, Robert Beatty; and her step-grandsons, Mason Lefeber and Zachary Torpy.
