Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson in is charge of arrangements for Patrick Eugene McGivney, 80, of West Des Moines and formerly of Jefferson. Patrick died March 1, 2021 at his home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, 501 N Locust St., Jefferson, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial and Military Honors will follow at the St Joseph's Cemetery in Jefferson. Patrick Eugene McGivney passed away peacefully around March 1, 2021 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Patrick was born in Jefferson, Iowa on March 17, 1940 to Mary Alice McGivney and Edward Delos McGivney. He attended St Patrick's Catholic School in Perry, Iowa where he graduated in 1958. Patrick joined the Army in 1958 where he was in basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, KS, and released to the National Guard in 1959 where he served until he was honorably discharged in 1963. Patrick attended St Ambrose College studying Agriculture. On August 22, 1964 Patrick was united in marriage to Rosemary Rita Clayton McGivney. To this union, Patrick and Rosemary had 3 children: Jeffrey Thomas McGivney, Erin Maureen Thornburgh, and Lori Ann Dale. Patrick most enjoyed spending his days on the family farm in Greenbrier Township, Jefferson Iowa, where he raised pigs and cows along with row crops. Farming was truly his lifetime passion. In later years, Patrick worked several years at Wal-Mart in sporting goods and enjoyed fishing. Those preceding Patrick in death were his wife Rosemary Rita McGivney, parents Mary Alice McGivney and Edward Delos McGivney, and brother William D McGivney. Patrick is survived by his children, Jeff (Doni) McGivney of Des Moines, IA, Erin (Pat) Thornburgh of New Virginia, IA, Lori (Kenny) Dale of West Des Moines, IA; 5 Grandsons: Gavin (Xenia) McGivney of Iowa City, IA; Travis (Sydney) Thornburgh of Des Moines, IA; Kaleb Dale of West Des Moines, IA, Trevor Thornburgh of New Virginia, IA; and Liam Dale of West Des Moines, IA.
