Paul Legouri Conner, only child of Pete Legouri Conner and Mary Emma Lupardus Conner, was born April 15, 1919 in Churdan, Iowa and died February 2, 2007 at Israel Family Hospice in Ames, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 17 days. Paul grew up in Churdan and after his schooling, worked for a farmer in Guthrie County. He met Jeannette Baker at the Spring Lake skating rink and later married on June 4, 1938. They were parents of three daughters: Linda, Diane, and Gloria. Paul farmed for 49 years in Highland Township. Paul and Jeannette moved into Jefferson to make their home in November of 1987. Paul was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Churdan and upon its closing, joined the United Methodist Church. He served his church in numerous capacities. Paul and Jeanette had enjoyed square dancing and cards. They also enjoyed their membership in the Greene County Campers and the many lasting friendships they made. For 27 years they wintered in Arizona. Always having been an avid reader and self taught man, he became interested in Western novels after Jeannette died. Paul loved Colorado and the mountains and always wished for a trip to Alaska. He didn't physically get to do that, but enjoyed many documentaries on Alaska. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 1998. He is survived by his daughters: Linda Groves and husband Jerry of Rippey, Iowa; Diane Bass and husband Larry of Des Moines, Iowa; and Gloria Zahrobsky and husband Leon of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: Jim Groves and wife Sandy: Teresa brown and husband Doug; Patty Lieweg and husband Scot; Brenda Bass; David Bass and wife Tamara; Darren Bass and wife Katie; Lora Castle and husband Ryan ; Lynn Augspurger and husband Jon; 11 great grandchildren: Kyann and Gina Brown; Helena Castle; Conner and Natasha Groves; Emily Auspurger; Jaide Castle; Victoria and Miranda Bass; Nora and Brian Bass; first cousin Rose Bea Siemann and husband John; other relatives and friends
